When you put a DIY awning on your place, the fabric does most of the heavy lifting.  It has to look sharp, block serious sun and hold up to years of Aussie weather without going chalky or sad. That’s why our awnings use Docril solution-dyed acrylic fabrics in colours and styles to suit every location.

Hamptons Stripe

A natural fit for coastal homes, beachside properties, and relaxed family spaces. These stripes use softer contrast and generous spacing to create a lighter, more open feel.

Choose this range if you want something fresh and coastal that still feels polished and well considered.

Atelier Stripe

Suited to modern, architectural, and European-inspired homes where restraint is important. These designs rely on tone and texture rather than contrast, so they sit quietly within the architecture.

Choose this range if you want a refined finish that feels calm, intentional, and timeless, rather than decorative.

Regatta Stripe

Well suited to classic homes, townhouses, and structured outdoor spaces such as verandas and courtyards. The narrow, repeating stripes bring a sense of order and rhythm.

This range works best when the goal is a neat, composed look that feels traditional and enduring.

Heritage Stripe

Ideal for character homes, renovated period properties, boutique accommodation, and resort-style builds. The layered stripes and decorative detailing add depth and warmth.

Why we use Docril on MIY awnings

For more than 20 years, Docril has been a go-to awning fabric in Australia, designed specifically for exterior blinds, awnings, umbrellas, boat covers and outdoor furniture.

In practice, that gets you:

• Colour that lasts – 100% solution-dyed acrylic yarn, so the colour runs right through the fibre, not just on the surface. It’s built to stay sharp under harsh UV.

• Real UV protection – the fabric blocks around 96–99% of UV, helping protect your skin, your furniture and your interior from sun damage.

• Better temperature control – Docril helps cut heat and glare outside while supporting indoor climate control behind your glass.

• Water & oil resistance – every fabric is finished with a DuPont Teflon coating for improved water repellency plus resistance to oils and everyday spills.

• Engineered to last – manufactured in a specialist outdoor textile mill with tight quality control, so you’re not the test case.

Shade, comfort and UV protection

Awnings are there to make your outdoor area actually usable, not just pretty in photos. Docril awning fabrics:

• Cut harsh sun and glare so you can sit outside comfortably in the middle of the day

• Help reduce heat build-up on doors and windows, which makes inside temps easier to manage

• Provide high levels of UV block, which supports skin protection and slows fading on your deck, flooring and furniture

Strong, stable and low-maintenance

Awning fabric gets hammered: sun, wind, rain, the odd bird dropping and a lot of BBQ smoke. Docril is built for that reality.

• UV stabilised – extra stabilisers in the fabric help resist long-term breakdown from sun and weather.

• Durable 290 gsm weight – a sweet spot where the fabric feels substantial, handles movement in the wind and still rolls neatly into the cassette.

• Mildew & rot resistant – designed for outdoor conditions, so normal exposure to moisture won’t wreck the fabric if it’s cared for properly.

To get the longest life out of your awning fabric:

• Hose it down regularly to remove dust, pollen and bird droppings

• Let it dry out before you roll it away after rain

• Clean with mild soap and water only – no harsh detergents or pressure washers

• Tackle marks early with gentle brushing or a soft sponge, and rinse well after cleaning

10-year UV warranty

Docril awning fabrics come with a 10-year UV warranty on the fabric itself.

• The warranty covers the fabric becoming non-functional due to loss of dimensional stability or abnormal fading under normal outdoor exposure.

• If the fabric fails in that way within the warranty period, replacement fabric is supplied (labour and refitting are not included).

• Normal ageing, surface dirt, pollution or mould from lack of cleaning aren’t covered, which is why the simple care steps above matter.

Full western sun or over paving? Lean towards higher-performance, deeper colours or classic stripes.

Long lunches and entertaining: look for colours that feel calm and don’t reflect glare.

3. The style of your home

Modern builds: textured greys, charcoals and clean plains work well.

Coastal or heritage: stripes and warmer tones tend to suit better.
